Valensole Airbnb
Valensole Airbnb
Once I got to the rental car place at the Marseille airport, everything was pretty easy. I upgraded to a Peugeot automatic with navigation. The guy programmed it for me in English. However, he didn’t go over the gadgets and how to start it or put it in drive. I sat there for about 30 minutes adjusting and figuring and frankly, a little nervous to get on the road. As a safety precaution, I used my GPS on my phone. Thankful I thought of that because the car’s navigation system wasn’t talking to me (was it something I said?) and I couldn’t see the screen for the glare or just because it was on a light I didn’t know how to adjust.
No traffic, yay! It was about 2:30pm and check-in to the Airbnb was at 3:30. I was on schedule and was able to navigate the toll road (just one) like a Countryman. I took one wrong turn because I was following the GPS and I swear she said at the round-about take the second turn. I was heading to Valensole—what is her problem? Oh, the Airbnb is actually in Les Chambres not Valensole, which is 20 minutes up the hill.
Le Chambres is a bedroom community close to Manosque; just across the river. I drove along a country road for a while and the BAM, the GPS said turn right. Right now! Up the road I went, around hairpins curves and into a neighborhood. I saw 46 Les Chambres, but the people there didn’t know anything about what I was talking about. Language barrier and probably an Airbnb that is rarely rented may have accounted for the confusion. Soon, I was directed to 46 C, which is after 46, 46A, and 46 B. I knocked and Yann came to the gate. Yes! This is it. We walk around the corner to the back of the house to find a converted garage (I think). Number 54.
The studio was modern and clean. Very cute inside. The drawbacks after being here for two whole nights is there are no curtains on the windowed front door, there is a security light that gets tripped by something every few minutes (at least last night), and the bed is a sofa bed. I did call Yann to help me with the induction stove. I couldn’t figure out that I had the child lock on. I should have called a child! (Oh, and he had to show me how to lock the door---crazy).
The number one problem, I found, is the Le Chat. This poor baby has adopted the place. He/She/It (not sure of preferred pronouns) walked right past me to stand in front of the door to go in. Scruffy, sick, skinny, matted hair, and seriously mangy cat. Breaks my heart. I have been feeding and watering Mangy. Twice a little boy (about 10 years old) has come over to carry Mangy home (I am guessing it is home). I gave the kid a baggy of burger bits pour le chat, but I am guessing he probably tossed it. Mangy keeps coming back, sometimes peering in the window to see if anybody is home.

I will leave you with more views of the Les Chambers that I didn't add at top:
