Farm Dog

Image
Farm Dog Okay, this is the last post.  I forgot to post the video I have on Farm Dog.  Farm Dog is my step-brother's band.  They have produced a few cds that they now give away.  They play folk and bluegrass but this night I saw them, they played a little of everything.  I had to cut the video down a bit just to give you a taste.  If you want to know more or see the whole video, you know how to find me.    Steve is also a photographer and I was so happy to discuss my own photography with him.  I was able to ask him about his process and all the questions I had stored up were answered.  I appreciated his insight and loved catching up with family myths and stories.  Thank you Steve.

Last Stop Boston

Image
Almost Home Why you ask did I chose to stop in Boston?   Well, the short answer is I have not seen Boston up close. The real answer is because of the flights I needed to take to get from Seville, Spain to little ‘ol San Jose airport would be long and uncomfortable flights.  I could get a better flight to San Jose within the states.  If I was going to stop in Boston, I might as well stop for a while to sightsee.  The Spain to Boston flight was good.  I did change seats so a father could sit next to his son. That put me in the middle seat where I would have been in the window seat had I refused.  In the end, there was plenty of room.  The girl, teen, or woman next to me was curled up with a hood on for the whole 9 hours.  It was almost like she wasn’t there.  I don’t think I ever saw her face. She didn’t eat or drink or talk.  The guy on the other side of me who was originally in the...

OMG, when will this cough get better?

Image
OMG, when will this cough get better?   Julie is my buddy.  What that means is, as a group of fourteen, we are to choose one person to keep track of and it can’t be anyone who you are traveling with. When the guide asks if everyone is there, you need to have eye contact with your “buddy”.   Rich, our guide, told us about one teenager who thought the buddy system was stupid.  She chose not to have a buddy and at one stop she was running after the bus who was ready to leave her.  After that, Rich was her buddy.  Back to Julie…Julie and I were talking on our last day about the symptoms I had making it difficult to get a restful sleep.  She said she had similar symptoms, and it was a sinus infection.  She assured me I could get antibiotics without a prescription from the pharmacy.   The next day (on Sunday, I still had one day in Seville), I set out to visit the nearby pharmacy. I was told that I needed a ...

Seville and still not feeling well

Image
Seville and still not feeling well.         Saturday proved to be a very busy day.     I made it an early night on Friday night after having Tapas with Rich (the guide), Jim and Jane, a married couple from Jacksonville, Florida at one table. At another table was my buddy, Julia, and her husband, Dan (Chicago) along with Camille and Nancy.   The Tapas were good again! Accept that I only had the stuffed avocado with yet more prawns.                                          (No pictures of the food, but plenty of pics of where the Tapas come from. BTW, I had vegetarian--stuffed avocado).  Sidenote:  How funny, I was just going to tell you about Jim and Jane while I am sitting in the dining room of the hotel having dinner (the tour was over yesterday) and who walks by but Jim and Jane.  Should I confess ...

Headed to Seville with a stop in Ronda

Image
Headed to Seville with a stop in Ronda.  Traveling through the countryside full of Olive Trees, as far as you can see, pops of red poppies dot the hillsides, and when approaching Seville, fields of sunflowers making it feel a little like the Wizard of Oz.  I saw these sporadic views between my series of ‘naps’.   Our bus was very roomy and just comfy enough for some shut eye.   We would stop along the way for bathroom breaks, although there was one on the bus no one ever used (well, I don’t think---I was asleep a lot and no-one checked in with me).  These stops were mostly primitive. If we stopped in a town, Rich, our guide told us to just find the toilets in the small café like you live there and then maybe buy something on the way out since the Rick Steves’ tours are notorious for using the same town/café each trip.  The White Town of Ronda was our intermittent stop; just one night.  For this night, we just needed ...
